Eden Park Boys Home (aka Mt Barker Boys Home; Salvation Army Probationary School for Boys, Mt Barker) was run by the Salvation Army on behalf of the State Government from 1900 to 1982. It was located in a rural setting (Paech Road) between Mount Barker and Wistow, in a former country estate from the late 1800s. After 1982 the premises were run by the Salvation Army as an alochol rehabilitation centre until 1997. The property now operates as the Bio Park Organic Farm. From 1940 to 1950, allegations of sexual abuse at Eden Park led the Government to strip the Salvation Army of its contract, and the Army to replace all of its male staff (1941). Tragically, abusive conditions resumed, as revealed (2001-09) by the Mullighan Inquiry and the memoir "44: A Tale of Survival" (Five Mile Press, 2014).
